I'm Chuck Brant, and I live in New Bern, NC. I have over 30 years of experience in software development, currently serving as Director of Software Engineering at Red Hat, where I've led teams building highly resilient, scalable cloud services. I'm a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and after a long career, I'm getting close to retirement. I'm also the lucky husband of Wendi Brant and the father of Sasha Brant.
I'm excited to share my journey as a photographer. I've shot micro four thirds, full-frame Sony, and film, and along the way I've fallen in love with film. There's something about it that pulled me in that digital never quite did.
I wanted a creative outlet that ties into travel and that I could pick up anywhere, so I built this site on GitHub. I keep it updated on the go using a custom iPad app I built with the help of Claude.
To me, photography is part technical and part creative. On one side, there's aperture, shutter speed, and ISO to master. On the other, there's an eye for light and composition to develop. What I love most is that the learning never really stops. The more I understand, the more I can shape images that actually reflect how I see a place.
As I keep growing on this journey, I'll be sharing my experiences and images here, along with the challenges and small wins along the way. I hope you enjoy following along.
